Essential Functions of Position:
- Work with Chief Estimator to accomplish department goals
- Train and mentor junior staff members
- Strategize and plan for successful bid outcome with Business Developer and Management
- Experience bidding Private and Public Works projects
- Understand wage determinations for target markets
- Experience bidding complex and large-scale projects including podium and rooftop work
- Sign and adhere to Non-Disclosure Agreements on confidential projects
- Understand and incorporate client issued documents into bid process (ITB, SOW, Bid Form, Schedule, Specifications, etc.)
- Build qualified vendor and subcontractor network to ensure competitive pricing
- Descope subcontractor proposals and understand associated risk
- Build cost estimates in bid and budget environments
- Understand appropriate markups per job type and scope of work
- Attend pre-bid and post scope review meetings with clients
- Manage project team and ensure bids are completed on time
- Provide peer bid reviews as necessary
- Package projects, including all scopes of work, for management review
- Provide risk assessment and suggestions to alleviate risk exposure in projects
- Review and contribute to value added pricing opportunities
- Complete proposals and bid packages per predefined strategy
- Accountable for complete project estimate
- Accountable for successful operational turnover
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Professional demeanor with staff and clients
- Must foster a positive and collaborative team environment
- Ability to prioritize workload in high volume market
- Ability to manage multiple project assignments concurrently
- Must be detail oriented and highly organized
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5-10 years of experience in commercial construction estimating
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office software programs
- Preferred experience working with estimating software platforms, including On-Screen Takeoff & Bid2Win
- Demonstrate proven track record of bid to contract conversions
