Nature Of Work
The Turf Manager position is responsible for managing and maintaining the integrity of all the natural grass and synthetic turf fields at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. Duties include the oversight of all DSGP youth recreational fields (21 grass, 2 synthetic) as well as the Colorado Rapids Training Field and DSGP Stadium Match surface, along with DSGP site landscaping and ornamental needs. Supervises and administers all functions of the DSGP youth sport fields and coordinates all prep, maintenance, and restoration of DSGP youth fields site.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Supervises and participates in the preparation and maintenance of the playing field and surrounding landscaping (including Rapids Practice field and youth field complex) to include sand based, mineral soil, and synthetic turf fields.
- Establishes, along with other management, the turf maintenance and general field development priorities and schedules with program supervisors; identifies alternatives and other cost-effective ways to get improved results.
- Develops, implements, and executes an effective program for maintaining a healthy, durable playing field, to include, but not limited to, watering, fertilization, mowing/cutting, aeration, chemical treatments, grooming of synthetic turf, etc.
- Recruits, interviews, hires and conducts training for part time staff; determines manpower needs and staffing schedule needs; works with Turf Director to counsel and discipline as appropriate.
- Implements snow and ice removal on natural grass and synthetic surfaces as requested, as well as in general areas such as parking lots and site walkways.
Other Duties/Responsibilities
- Cooperates and coordinates with other Stadium and KSE departments in the use of the playing field for ceremonies, sponsorship use, filming, soccer clinics, and non-soccer use of the playing field.
- Attends herbicide, turf management, irrigation maintenance and/or pest control classes as directed to stay abreast and knowledge in landscape techniques.
- Develops layout and constructs special landscape projects from designs, blueprints and plans to include planters, planting beds and landscape timbers, ensure work is installed according to project specifications; repair broken posts or fences as directed.
- Assures required safety standards and precautions, as well as company policies, are followed.
- Performs related duties as needed or assigned.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES
- Supervises all seasonal staff part-time staff.

- Various professional/commercial field maintenance equipment including vertical and rotary, aerifiers, sprayers, verticutters, field painting equipment, snowplows, etc.

- Stand up and walk up to 2/3 of time.

- Talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, 2/3 or more of time.
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. up to 1/3 of time.
- Moderate to very loud noise.
- Clear vision at 20”, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Qualifications
- Minimum
- Minimum 2 years of work experience in maintaining grounds and landscapes with specialized knowledge of irrigation systems, turf management and high-performance sand-based fields, mineral soil fields, and synthetic turf fields.
- Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
- Preferred
- Certified Sports Field Manager (CSFM), preferred.
- Ability to acquire or produce and maintain a valid driver’s license and meet company vehicle driving standards.

Compensation
- Base salary range $65,000.00-$70,000.00 per annum
