Perform a variety of entry-level duties in the construction, repair and maintenance of City grounds, parks, cemeteries, golf courses, and various systems including streets, irrigation, storm drainage, wastewater, recycling and collections; operate a variety of equipment including trucks, backhoes, fork lifts, graders; set up traffic control; obtain and haul materials and supplies; set up work sites; perform grounds keeping activities such as mowing and planting of trees and flowerbeds; install and repair irrigation systems; inspect and maintain trees and shrubs; operate light maintenance of equipment and trucks.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives direction from Supervisor or Crew Leader responsible for oversight of assigned area.
Primary Duties
Operate a variety of equipment including dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, forklifts, tractors, grounds keeping equipment, snow removal equipment, power and hand tools, and other specialized maintenance and construction equipment related to area of assignment; perform safety and maintenance inspections on assigned vehicle or equipment; perform routine vehicle and equipment maintenance and repairs.
Plant, water, and maintain landscaped areas consisting of turf, bushes, trees, flowers, and shrubs; design, pre-order, and maintain pots, barrels, and other containers; trim and prune bushes, trees, and shrubs; stake trees as necessary; water, mow, weed, renovate, and aerate turf; edge and trim around fence lines and other items.
Clean and maintain restrooms and locker rooms; stock paper supplies, clean toilets, sinks and mirrors; mop floors and empty trash.
Respond to requests and inquiries from customers and the general public; inform the public of upcoming construction and maintenance activities.
Operate and maintain irrigation and sprinkler systems including pump stations, underground piping, valves, wiring, sprinklers, and controllers; check for broken lines, heads, and other parts; determine watering needs for assigned areas and establish watering schedules.
Participate in the maintenance and operation of City Cemeteries including answering questions and assisting the general public, participate in burial activities and maintaining grave sites.
Identify and prepare supplies and equipment needed for each assigned project; check tools and supplies in and out; distribute safety items; maintain inventory of parts, tools, materials, and equipment; provide information necessary for ordering supplies, equipment, and tools needed; inform supervisor of equipment conditions and needed repairs.
Set up safe and effective traffic control, including street barricades and cones, prior to the performance of maintenance and construction activities to ensure public and worker safety through work zones; direct and control traffic around work sites.
Participate in the installation, maintenance, and reconstruction of streets and related systems; clean and seal cracks; dig out and repair sections of road as needed; fill and repair potholes in streets and alleys; patch utility cuts; shovel, rake, distribute, and clean materials necessary for completion of jobs including asphalt used in patching, repairing, and reconstructing streets.
Install and replace guardrails, barriers, and other street system safety devices.
Clean and maintain assigned areas; pick up and discard trash, debris, and litter; haul material collected to landfill and dump sites; rake leaves; clear snow, ice, and other debris from roadways, parking lots, walkways, irrigation systems, street and storm drain systems, ditches, alleys, and other facilities; wash and mop stadium and bleacher seats.
Inspect, clean and maintain sewer lines, meters, pressure valves, and other assigned collection systems or equipment; dig and shore up trenches and holes.
Construct and install improvements to walkways, bike paths, irrigation and storm drain systems including building and forming irrigation and storm drain structures; operate concrete cutting and breaking equipment; construct concrete forms; pour and assist in finishing concrete.
Drive a recycling truck; collect and sort recyclable material; transport recyclable material to drop off recycle center; collect and deliver plastic containers and totes; provide public with information regarding recycle collect process.
Prepare and maintain a variety of reports, records, and logs.
Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

Knowledge of:
Operations, services and activities of assigned maintenance function.
Methods, standards, techniques, materials, equipment, and tools used in the installation, maintenance, and reconstruction of systems, equipment, and facilities in area of assignment.
Operational characteristics and maintenance requirements of maintenance tools and equipment.
Traffic laws, ordinances, regulations and safety rules involved in truck and heavy equipment operation.
Practices and techniques of metal cutting and welding.
General mathematics including addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.
Herbicide and pesticide applications.
Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
City geography and street locations.
Customer service procedures and principles.
Principles and practices of record keeping.
English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Applicable tools and equipment operations.
Applicable Federal, State and local codes, laws and regulations.

Experience and Training Guidelines
Minimum Requirements:
Experience:
One year (1) of general labor experience.
Training:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
License or Certificate
Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Colorado Driver License.
Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Colorado Commercial Driver License within 6 months of hire as required in assigned area of responsibility..

The following physical activities are very or extremely important in accomplishing the job's purpose and are performed on a daily basis:
Position requires hearing, talking, sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movements. The position requires both near and far vision for inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. Lifting, carrying and pushing tools, equipment and supplies weighing 50 pounds or more is also required. Materials and chemicals may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. Job may require work in confined spaces. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, and work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions. The employee regularly works in outside weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions, vibration and street traffic. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.
