About the Position:
The City of Grand Junction is accepting applications for a Turf and Irrigation Supervisor. The Turf and Irrigation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and care of municipal turf areas, sports fields, parks, and landscaped areas. This role includes the planning, implementation, and supervision of irrigation systems to ensure efficient water use for healthy plant and turf health. The supervisor will manage a team of workers, coordinate with other municipal departments, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations and best practices.
As the Turf and Irrigation Supervisor you will oversee and coordinate the maintenance and operations within some of Grand Junctions highest profile parks and facilities. Keystone amenities for this position include the Las Colonias Business Park, Las Colonias Amphitheatre and the Dos Rios Park corridor. This position will also have responsibilities tied to various park facilities across the entirety of Grand Junction's park system, including the landscape maintenance and operations of our municipal cemeteries (Orchard Mesa and Crowne Pointe).

About the Parks Operations Division:
The City of Grand Junction's Park Operations Division includes Cemeteries, Forestry, Horticulture, Open Space, Plant Health, River District, Sports Facilities, and Turf & Irrigation. We are responsible for the maintenance of 35 developed parks within the City. In addition to these developed parks, the Division also maintains the miles of trails, Las Colonias Amphitheater, Canyon View Regional Park, Lincoln Park Sports Complex, and open space natural areas across the City. This Division operates and maintains over 350 acres of developed parks, 285 acres of undeveloped parks, 55 acres of school properties, 37,000 public trees, 600 acres of open space, and 21 miles of riverfront and urban trails with 45 full time positions and over 60 seasonal staff members.

What You'll Do:
- Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of assigned staff.
- Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives for assigned programs and functions.
- Participate in the development and administration of the department’s annual budget.
- Serve as safety officer for identified divisions of the Parks & Recreation Department.
- Determine need for new equipment; conduct research and prepare bid specifications; requisition supplies and materials; maintain appropriate inventory levels.
- Assist with the development of capital improvement projects.
- Establish schedules and methods for providing assigned services and coordinating maintenance of parks vehicles and equipment.
- Prepare and review a variety of reports and documents related to the maintenance of time, material and equipment use records; track and analyze data related to the evaluation of performance, cost, and service levels.
- Inspect the work of crews in progress and upon completion; provide advice and assistance to crew members; ensure maintenance and construction procedures are completed in a satisfactory and thorough manner and in compliance with City, departmental and safety policies and procedures.
- Assist in the development and strategies for master planning including community participation.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
Turf Management:
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules for mowing, fertilizing, aerating, top-dressing, seeding, and pest control.
- Monitor turf health and diagnose issues related to pests, diseases, and soil conditions.
- Recommend and apply appropriate treatments and amendments.
- Provide training and educational resources to staff on best practices in turf management.
Irrigation Management:
- Design, install, maintain, and repair irrigation systems.
- Program and adjust irrigation schedules to optimize water usage and maintain turf health.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with local water usage regulations and guidelines.
- Provide training and educational resources to staff on best practices in irrigation management.
Compliance and Environmental Stewardship:
- Ensure all activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Implement sustainable practices to promote environmental health and resource conservation.
- Keep abreast of industry trends, innovations, and regulatory changes.
This is a full-time position with a typical schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Availability for occasional weekend work, emergency repairs, and special events as needed.

Qualifications
This position is a safety sensitive position, which means you will be subject to random drug screens due to the nature of the work performed. What We're Looking For:
- Four (4) years of responsible parks maintenance and/or construction experience including one (1) year of administrative and/or lead supervisory experience.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. supplemented by specialized training in forestry, horticulture, landscape maintenance, sports facilities, or a related field.
- Possession of, or the ability to obtain a valid Colorado Driver License. Some assignments may require the ability to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver License, Pesticide Applicator License, and ISA Certified Arborist.
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
