Position: Landscaping/Turf Manager

Job Summary: The Landscaping/Turf Manager is responsible for the overall planning, management, and maintenance of the CCRC's landscaping and turf areas. This role includes managing a team of groundskeepers, developing maintenance schedules, and ensuring that all landscaped areas are aesthetically pleasing, safe, and well-maintained. The Landscaping/Turf Manager will also be responsible for procuring materials and equipment, managing budgets, and implementing sustainable landscaping practices.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
Landscape Maintenance: Oversee the design, installation, and maintenance of all landscaping areas, including flower beds, shrubs, trees, lawns, and pathways. Ensure all areas are well-maintained, clean, and visually appealing.
Turf Management: Develop and implement a comprehensive turf management plan, including mowing, fertilizing, aeration, irrigation, pest control, and weed management to maintain healthy and lush lawns.
Safety and Compliance: Ensure all landscaping activities comply with safety regulations and standards. Conduct regular safety training and inspections to minimize risks and promote a safe working environment.
Equipment, Resource and Vendor Management: Manage the procurement, inventory, and maintenance of all landscaping tools, equipment, and supplies. Ensure that all equipment is in safe working condition and properly stored. Maintain an inventory of landscaping and turf management equipment, ensuring timely maintenance, repairs, and replacements. Coordinate with vendors and contractors for specialized services, such as tree removal, pest control, and large-scale landscaping projects.
Irrigation and Water Management: Manage the installation, repair, and maintenance of irrigation systems, ensuring efficient water usage and compliance with local water conservation guidelines. Monitor weather conditions and soil moisture to optimize irrigation schedules, minimizing water waste.
Budget & Resource Management: Develop and manage the landscaping budget, including forecasting costs, controlling expenditures, and identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising the quality of landscaping services. Collaborate with the Director of Facilities ensuring budget alignment with JKV’s financial objectives.
Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and evaluate the performance of groundskeepers and other landscaping staff. Schedule and delegate tasks to ensure efficient operation and high-quality landscaping services. Ensure all team members adhere to safety standards and protocols, promoting a safe work environment. Oversee the hiring and onboarding of new team members as needed.
Sustainability: Implement sustainable landscaping practices, including water conservation, use of native plants, and eco-friendly pest and weed control methods. Ensure compliance with local environmental regulations and best practices reducing ecological footprint of the community’s landscaping operations.
Seasonal Planning: Plan and execute seasonal landscaping projects, including planting, pruning, and other weather-related tasks.
Resident Interaction: Respond to landscaping-related inquiries and concerns from residents, ensuring high satisfaction levels and maintaining a positive community environment.

Working Conditions
- Primarily outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- Must be available for emergencies and seasonal needs, including weekends and holidays, as required.
- Frequently works near moving mechanical parts.
- Occasionally works in high, precarious places; in outside weather conditions.
- Exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic and caustic chemicals, extreme temperatures, risk of electrical shock, and vibrations.
- Noise level may be exposed to unusually high noise levels
Physical, Licenses And Other Requirements
- Must have Turf and Ornamental Pesticide License and Lawn and Ornamental Pest Control License
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in landscaping and turf management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role. Experience in a CCRC or similar environment is a plus.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on customer services and team collaboration
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be comfortable interacting with residents and potential residents in a highly professional manner.

Education Or Certification Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Landscape Management, Turf Management, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered Occasional lifting of heavy objects and exposure to outdoor weather conditions is required.
