Objective
The Landscape Install Superintendent is a hands-on position managing field supervisors and crews performing commercial landscape installation. The main focus of this role is to manage safety, quality, project completion, team scheduling, and communication with the team as it pertains to the contracted scope of work. The Superintendent ensures the effective deployment and management of resources, equipment, and personnel. The Superintendent will promote teamwork within the company.
Responsibilities
- Pre-Planning
- Review landscape design for discrepancies or inaccuracies in materials, quantities, equipment, or labor assumptions.
- Review nursery inventory to identify ordering needs.
- Perform pre-construction site visits to aid in planning and completing jobs.
- Production
- Oversight of successful completion of multiple landscape construction projects operating simultaneously
- Ensure the job site is ready before deploying to the plant including irrigation installed and graded properly.
- Make sure that crews have a copy of the most up-to-date blueprints.
- Coordinates with Plant Buyer/Grower the plant needs and timing to ensure proper plant material is sourced on time.
- Ensures POs correspond to contracted quantities.
- Coordinate with Project Manager and Plant Buyer for procurement and delivery timing of plants, sod, and mulch. Source certain materials, such as rock or mulch, as directed.
- Effectively schedule and deploy multiple crews and a variety of equipment to job sites to optimize labor costs.
- Ensure received material specs and quantities match the PO.
- When able, load materials in the afternoon to prepare for the following day.
- Ensure that material selection, grade, and layout match blueprints.
- Understand and oversee the proper installation of plant material per project plans and specifications
- Familiar with and ability to direct loading/unloading of large trees/palms and volumes of shrubs. Ensure materials are handled with care during loading/unloading and transportation.
- Ensure that plants are planted at proper height and jetted to remove air bubbles.
- Prune materials as needed to remove damaged areas or dead limbs.
- Source and engage subcontractors.
- Ensure pictures are taken and emailed with a recap summary of work completed daily.
- Document and communicate GC/client feedback to the Project Manager.
- Ensure crews do not leave trash or debris.
- Focus on safety standards and monitor safety records.
- Ensure crews comply with customer requirements for PPE and safety.
- Obtain OSHA 10 certification.
- Identify opportunities to improve safety standards.
- Assist with leading weekly companywide safety meetings.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment, including, but not limited to front loader, skid steer, excavator, trencher, and attachments such as planetary auger, rototiller, forks, air spade, etc.
- Ensure that construction equipment, tools, and materials are properly maintained to minimize damage or losses. Make sure equipment is inspected weekly and greased regularly.
- Ensure compliance with DOT standards when transporting materials and equipment.
- Administration & Personnel
- Work closely with the Office Manager to promote and enforce all Policies and Procedures.
- Provide daily timecards for landscape install crews.
- Interview, hire, orient, and train all new hires on the landscape install team.
- Continually provide ongoing training to field supervisors to meet company growth and goals.
- Document absences, tardiness, and other disciplinary actions.
- Conduction performance reviews for field supervisors and crews.
- Risk management – identify and proactively respond to potential issues throughout the life of the project to minimize potential negative impacts.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with all team members involved in the project(s) on items such as scheduling, required resources, and potential issues to be aware of.
- Maintain and build positive working relationships with general contractors and subcontractors.
Qualifications & Specific Skills
- Minimum 3 years experience in landscaping or construction project management.
- High school diploma. College degree in a related field is a plus.
- Very strong organizational and planning skills; ability to manage changing priorities and workflow.
- A dedication to learning and improving company standards, procedures, and goals.
- Exercises good judgment and is accountable.
- Willingness to work long hours, including overtime and weekends, and assist with other projects, as required.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English. Bilingual Spanish is a plus.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Possess a valid and clean Florida driver’s license.
