Position Overview:
We are seeking a Sales Manager to lead a team of six, including four sales representatives and two counter managers. This role focuses on mentoring, guiding, and supporting the sales team in building their client base—without carrying a personal portfolio. The ideal candidate will work primarily on-site but will also travel to meet clients and support the sales team in the field.
Major Objectives:
The Sales Manager will oversee both inside and outside sales representatives to achieve budgeted growth and profit for the nursery. Responsibilities include providing exceptional customer service, resolving issues, and facilitating communication between the sales team and production staff.
Essential Functions:
- Manage, train, and develop the sales team of (6).
- Create weekly work schedules for sales representatives.
- Focus on customer service and retention.
- Set specific sales goals and track performance.
- Collaborate with inventory and production teams to meet sales objectives.
- Address customer complaints promptly to ensure satisfaction.
- Conduct performance reviews and assist in goal setting.
- Maintain a positive industry image through professional interactions.
- Engage with trade organizations to enhance sales potential.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Strong horticultural knowledge preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and identify effective solutions.
- Commitment to outstanding customer service.
Prerequisites:
- 5+ years of sales management experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in horticulture or a related field preferred not required.
- Prior supervisory experience is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Working Environment:
- Local and state-wide travel may be necessary.
- Work may involve outdoor conditions and varying temperatures.
