Seeking a candidate with landscaping/landscape design experience who will teach various classes in these subjects. Supports all facets of the learning environment as demonstrated by institutionally prescribed curriculum and learning assessments. Through preparation and learner centered instruction, delivers career education that will support graduates in meeting the evolving needs of the employment market. Will provide support and guidance to students, ensuring student progress toward the successful completion of their program, participates in activities with the program advisory committee, students, and the community. This position requires decision making and operating in a coordinated effort with the school leadership (i.e., Executive Director, Sr. Director of Operations, Senior Program Director [where applicable], Director of Student Services), program specific advisory committees, and all other academic personnel. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. Essential duties and responsibilities include, and are not strictly limited to, the following: Level II Specific: On a day-to-day basis, ensures classroom management is being applied appropriately throughout the department, monitors and addresses attendance and behavior issues, and follows through with appropriate documentation. Takes the lead on classroom management and curriculum delivery/implementation while following all licensing guidelines and school standards to ensure a consistent application of school policy and procedure within department. Maintains open communication to report any potential and/or current issues with Senior Program Director, Sr. Director of Operations and/or the Director of Student Services. Works collaboratively and brings a positive mindset to teamwork. Teaching & Instruction: Develops class work and delivers instruction in accordance with curricula, syllabi, outline, course text, department of education licensing regulations, accreditation standards, industry guidelines and the needs of employers. Adequately prepares for class; reviews and delivers all course materials and lesson plans for all courses. Delivers learner-centered instruction. Provides acknowledgment and corrective feedback in a non-judgmental way to guide students toward improving performance and achieving better results. Relates industry experience to learning. Records and maintains accurate student attendance and grades. Completes grade reports and final grade sheets, learning assessments, final examination assessments by established deadline(s). Administers and completes competency testing by established deadline(s). Maintains familiarity with the school catalog, the MBC Employee Handbook and all the procedures, expectations, and policies stated therein. Responds to student questions in a timely manner. Ensures classroom, lab, and production areas are neat and orderly. Remains current on software applications that support designated instruction. Maintains a professional instructor-student relationship, including: establishing and maintaining positive student interactions; restricting classroom time to relevant, subject-related information; ensuring nondiscriminatory, fair and equal treatment of all students; being prepared for each class and beginning each class on time as scheduled; responding to student questions in a calm, clear and concise fashion; providing a non-threatening environment conducive to learning and positive self-esteem. Works cooperatively with program director, affiliate personnel and other program staff to deliver and enhance the effectiveness of training. Attends and participates in planning meetings with department staff, directors, and school employees. Maintains credentials as required by accrediting councils/agencies and regulatory bodies. Participate in new faculty on-boarding and ongoing in-service faculty development activities, and discipline specific professional development. Mentors new faculty as needed. Classroom Management: Maintains an environment that encourages and supports learning. Practices proactive management strategies that focus on recognizing and acknowledging desirable conduct. Applies practices and procedures to keep students organized, orderly, focused, attentive, on-task, and academically productive. Practices active supervision to avoid disruptive behavior. Employs strategies to respond to disruptive or inappropriate behavior. Student Success and Satisfaction: Assists students in achieving educational and career goals. Assists students with problem resolution. Identifies at-risk students, as necessary, refers students to advisor, in-house counselor or program director for additional support and intervention. Actively engages in retention activities including documented student mentoring activities and communication. Tutors students as needed. Assists administration in program evaluation, review, and revision when requested. Consistently achieves a minimum of 60% rating for each category on the quarterly student survey. Laboratory and Field Work Responsibilities: Stays abreast of industry related technological advancements through professional affiliations, reviewing industry publications and continuing education. Incorporates new material into curriculum. Provides a safe working environment for students to ensure proper use of chemicals, materials, and equipment. Develops, implements, and fosters effective and responsible safe laboratory practices. Monitors and maintains records for all safety procedures and equipment. Guards against the performance of any unauthorized experiments and activities. Documents all incidences as required. Maintains laboratory equipment and supplies including chemicals, glassware, kits, and SDS sheets. Properly and safely stores chemicals, materials, and equipment. Maintains accurate records of inventory (chemicals, materials, and equipment), technical documentation and instructional equipment. Stays abreast of technological advancements industry wide and incorporates new information into curricula as appropriate. Evaluates student progress. Provides feedback to students and other faculty and staff in a timely manner. As needed, develops, and implements student improvement plans. As necessary, transports students to field trips or other offsite events using corporate vehicle. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: There are no supervisory responsibilities associated with this position. EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: Three years of progressive experience within the program specific industry required; MS Office skills; valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and an insurable driver’s record required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Experience providing training or classroom instruction preferred. Industry specific certifications or licensure may be required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a worker to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The worker must possess the mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the worker is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear. The worker is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, and stoop or kneel. The worker is required to use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, telephone, and other office equipment. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as viewing a computer screen, reading, and preparing and analyzing documents. Light to moderate lifting may be required. Regular, predictable attendance is required. The physical demands for working in the greenhouse include the ability to perform activities that require considerable physicality. Typical activities would include movements such as lifting, bending, reaching, walking, pushing, and pulling carts, and handling and sorting of materials. The worker must be able to lift 10-20 pounds repetitively and up to 50 pounds periodically. The worker must be able to adjust to hot and humid conditions in the greenhouse and various weather conditions outside. Additionally, the worker must be able to tolerate exposure to common chemicals or airborne agents, beneficials, bees, insects, and other microorganisms.
