Trees Atlanta is a nonprofit community group that protects and improves Atlanta’s urban forest by planting, conserving, and educating. Since its beginnings, Trees Atlanta’s goals have been to plant new trees, conserve existing trees, replace trees lost to development and hazards, and educate the public on the many benefits of trees. Trees Atlanta has become one of the most widely-known and respected non-profits locally, as well as nationally, for their work as stewards of our urban environment. To date, Trees Atlanta has planted and cared for over 170,000 trees in metro Atlanta.
Job Description
Trees Atlanta is recruiting an Urban Trees Manager to oversee all logistical matters for the installation of Ball and Burlap trees in Atlanta, with specific attention to the Atlanta Beltline Arboretum Trail. The ideal candidate will have outstanding interpersonal skills and a proven ability to effectively manage multiple active projects, motivate employees, and make project decisions based on best practices of tree planting and maintenance.
The Urban Trees Manaage will:
- Implement all aspects of Trees Atlanta's Urban Trees Program and assist the Director of Planting in identifying additional opportunities to improve program capacity and efficacy
- Oversee installation of trees of a variety of sizes utilizing tools including, but not limited to, shovels, pickaxes, ball carts, and rakes
- Operate and train staff on specialized equipment (trucks, trailers, skid steer, mini-excavator, water tanks, pumps,etc.)
- Oversee logistics and implementation of landscape installations through supervision of contractor(s)
- Maintain safe working conditions for employees, contractors, and the general public
- Manage healthcare of all landscape installations, including but not limited to watering, mulching, pruning, staking, insecticide application, weed control
- Complete assigned weekly work and tree data reports
- Prepare tree planting proposals, including basic design, materials list, budget, and installation schedule
- Submit internal financial documentation for prompt payment of invoices, as required
- Coordinate with organizational partners and community contacts to assess planting site viability
- Assist the Director of Planting in communicating with representatives from partnering organizations to submit proposals and receive installation approvals, as required
- Oversee hiring, training, and performance of the Urban Trees team
- Work with Urban Trees Supervisor and Urban Trees Coordinator to schedule staff and volunteer activities, installation/maintenance schedules, as appropriate, and ensure work is completed within budget and on schedule
- Additional tasks as needed to fulfill program goals and Trees Atlanta’s mission (e.g cross-department design input, occasional volunteer supervision, special design projects along the Atlanta Beltline Arboretum)
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of related work experience
- At least 1 year of prior experience supervising staff and/or subcontractors
- ISA Certified Arborist, preferred, or ability to be certified within 1 year of hire
- Experience reading, interpreting, and implementing landscape and construction drawings
- Knowledgeable in the best practices of the planting and care of trees
- Excellent computer skills with working knowledge of ArcGIS
- Highly motivated, organized, and detail-oriented

- Demonstrate a basic understanding of safety or risk management for and around heavy machinery and construction sites
Physical Requirements
- At least 21 years old with a valid driver’s license and a clean 3-year driving history (Proficiency in pickup truck and trailer driving preferred)
- Flexibility to work Saturday on rare occasions. Typical work-week is M-F
- Be willing to work outside in all weather conditions (rain, heat, etc). The majority of work for this position will be performed outside
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test and background screening
- ability to pass a DOT physical
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Updated tetanus shot.
