As Lead Landscape Buyer, you will be responsible for managing the procurement of high-quality plant and landscape materials for Dennis’ 7 Dees residential and commercial landscaping projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong horticultural knowledge, excellent communication skills, and an aptitude for nurturing vendor relationships. Your organizational skills, strategic thinking, and ability to manage priorities effectively will contribute to your success. Leadership qualities are essential, as this role involves supervising and training a team, while problem-solving and adaptability are key to overcoming sourcing challenges. A proactive, data-driven approach, along with proficiency in technology and inventory management, will be crucial in ensuring successful procurement and project outcomes.
Responsibilities and Duties

Procurement & Sourcing: Source, negotiate, and purchase a wide range of plant and landscape materials for residential and commercial landscaping projects.

Vendor Management: Establish and maintain strong vendor relationships, negotiate favorable terms, and evaluate vendor performance to ensure cost efficiency and reliability.

Process Improvement: Evaluate and improve purchasing processes to foster innovation, increase efficiency, and streamline operations.

Record Keeping: Maintain accurate purchasing records, pricing updates, and inventory data, and track KPIs to inform strategic decision-making.

Inventory & Logistics: Oversee inventory management, track materials, conduct audits, and ensure quality control while minimizing waste and maintaining plant health standards.

Collaboration: Work closely with retail senior buyers to align plant and product offerings, coordinate seasonal promotions, special orders, and shared vendor opportunities.

Team Education & Support: Provide product training and insights to the purchasing team, design team, and account managers, while staying informed about industry trends and new plant varieties.

Issue Resolution: Address any availability or quality issues with plant materials, manage special requests, and overcome sourcing challenges with creative solutions.

Industry Representation: Represent the company at vendor meetings, tradeshows, and industry events, strengthening our reputation and expertise in the green industry.
Required Qualifications

Industry Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of horticulture, plant materials, and landscape materials for various applications.

Leadership & Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments and lead teams effectively.

Organization & Multi-tasking: Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently.
- Valid driver's license with insurable record required.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 2-4 years of proven experience in procurement, inventory management, and vendor relations required.
- 1-2 years of management or supervisory experience required.
- Proficiency in inventory and purchasing systems required; familiarity with Aspire preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in Office365, particularly Excel and data analytics.

Work Schedule and Environment
- Work hours are Monday to Friday from 7:30am to 4:00pm with some flexibility.
- This position is in-person and based at our main office and landscaping headquarters in SE Portland.
- Occasional travel may be required for vendor meetings, tradeshows, and industry events.
