Prioritized Must Have Skills for the Landscape Architecture / Planning Department Manager:
#1. Must be a registered Landscape Architect, Professional Engineer or Certified Planner license.
#2. Must have at least 8 or more years of professional Land Planning / Landscape Architecture experience.
#3. Must have the ability to manage clients and undertake business development activities.
#4. No more than 3 jobs in the last 10 years.
Requirements Of The Landscape Architecture / Planning Department Manager
- Education: A degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, or Civil Engineering from an accredited program is preferred.
- Certification: Professional registration as a Landscape Architect, Certified Planner, or Professional Engineer.
- Experience: At least 8 years of experience in Land Planning or Landscape Architecture with a varied and dynamic portfolio.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong background in land development design, site and master planning, and oversight of construction documents and construction administration, including technical layouts, grading plans, planting plans, details, and hardscape design.
- Communication Skills: Effective communicator with strong freehand illustration, rendering, and graphic skills in both sketch and finished formats.
- Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of AutoCAD/Civil 3D, Adobe Creative Suites (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, SketchUp), and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Financial Management: Excellent financial management skills.
- Work Environment: Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment, adjusting to project priorities and client requests.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Experience with local codes, ordinances, and public agency standards related to land development design and entitlement processes.
- Business Development: Strong business development skills and knowledge of the local land development market.
- Presentation Skills: Effective collaborator and presenter in front of boards and councils for various project types.
- Client Liaison: Ability to liaise with public and private sector clients, maintain client relationships, manage projects, and mentor staff.
- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills for professional interaction with clients, government officials, and the public.
- Quality Assurance: Experience in developing and adhering to a formalized QA/QC program.
- Compliance: Candidate must pass a drug screening, background check, and maintain a satisfactory driving record per the company’s MVR policy.
